Geography

Pupils develop a growing understanding of the wider world including knowing the location of the main countries and capital cities of the U.K., Europe and the Americas.

They need to grasp important geographical concepts such as ‘climate’ and use geographical language such as ‘equator’, ‘latitude’ and ‘hemisphere’. The units are designed to introduce them to increasingly complex aspects of human and physical geography for example, through our unit on Coasts in Year 3 and studying Volcanoes and Earthquakes in Year 6.

Throughout the school, we want immersive experiences for finding out about Geography. We support this with fieldwork visits, for example to Hayling Island in Year 3, through using digital programs such as Google Earth and through challenging activities such as analysing earthquake data in Year 6.
